About The Plaid Badger
From a young age I was always creating and crafting. I loved making handmade gifts for friends and family. Like so many others, March 2020 I found myself at a crossroad. I worked in the event industry -- and we all know how that went. Days before losing my job, we adopted a sweet little mixed mutt with the longest legs; it was love at first sight as he came bounding towards us all legs and floppy ears. I had plenty of dark days ahead. Lots of unknowns. And if I'm being honest, I lost a lot of my self and my identity. Meanwhile, in a truly who-rescued-who situation, was our sweet little rescue, Hunter. His silliness and sweetness kept me going. Slowly I felt the pieces of my heart mending back together. For my husband's birthday that year I wanted to make just a little something for him-- an Iowa Hawkeye bandana for Hunter to wear. (A true token of love when this lady is a badger through and through).By Christmas I decided to dive headfirst into the idea of Creating Joy -- since I found so much joy through Hunter, and creating was the only time where I felt like I was the most myself. And so, The Plaid Badger was born.

What Makes Us Special
I take so much love and pride in what I do-- with each item being handmade, hand embroidered, exclusively by me.
.
I source everything: the fabric, the hardware, and other needed components. I create most of our items as small batch--limiting the quantity of fabric I'll purchase. I love a good vintage fabric find, and mixing and matching patterns for an elevated, and thoughtfully curated look. You can buy a dog collar anywhere, but with a Plaid Badger item, I want you to feel the love and joy put into your item, and know that it's superior quality, special, and never mass-produced.

Our Name
I get asked a lot, why the name? The badger is a nod to my roots at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. And the plaid, .... it's not just because its cozy, rustic, and reminicent of the northwoods; Dad wore flannel shirts nearly every day. Not a day goes by where I don't think of him. This is my way of honoring him and keeping him present for this wild journey.

About Hunter
Call him our shop dog, our mascot, or the boss. This sweet little pup is the inspiration and dog behind the brand. Hunter is a 5-6 year old rescue. Don't let his looks fool you, he's half weimaraner, about a quarter aussie, some hunting dog, and a bunch of other breeds-- but not a drop of lab!
He's silly, playful, and loves basking in the sunshine or chasing squirrels in the backyard.
